How to choose a dentist?

Before booking your first appointment, it’s important to consider what a great dentist and dental clinic look like for you. You’ll want to think about your overall dental health, what your current and future needs may be, what type of personalities and values are important to you, services and conveniences you require (early morning appointments, cosmetic expertise, the mind, body and mouth connection, etc) and what locations are convenient for you to access.

How book your dental appointment

We are more than happy to book your appointment for you when you call our office, or you can book online, if you prefer. Whichever method is best for you is great with us. We offer both options for your convenience.

When booking your first appointment with us, we will require the following information:

-Full Name

-Phone Number

-Email Address

-New Patient or Returning Patient

-Preferred Contact Method

-Reason For Appointment

-Preferred Date & Time

-Any Other Information (Health concerns, dental anxiety, referrals)

If you feel there is any other information we need to know ahead of your first appointment, please share it with us at the time of booking.

What to bring to your first dental appointment?

You will complete a medical and dental questionnaire ahead of your appointment and we will go through it in detail together. This information can be emailed to you and completed online. Most of the questions will be simple for you to answer. If you take any prescription medication, you may want to bring a list of them to your appointment.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your first appointment with Ambiance Dental is a  New Patient Comprehensive Examination. 

At Ambiance Dental we pride ourselves on getting to know our clients completely and take the time to cover many areas of your health including;

• Discuss your concerns and answer any questions you may have
• Take digital x-rays of all your teeth and a panoramic digital x‑ray
• Capture digital photographs of your mouth and smile
• Assess the fit and function of any previous dental work
• Examine the health of your gums
• Evaluate your teeth alignment, bite and TMJ function
• Perform an oral cancer screening
• Address any aesthetic concerns you may have
• Understand if you have anxiety about visiting the dentist
• Review your complete medical history
• Discuss how your general health may impact your dental health, and vice versa

How long should I allow for my appointment?

Your first appointment is a thorough check of all areas of your oral and overall health so it will take approximately 120 minutes.

How long does the average dentist appointment take?

During your initial appointment, a prioritized treatment plan will be reviewed with you. The length of subsequent appointments can be reviewed before booking. In general, a routine cleaning appointment takes 60-90 minutes. Restorative work with one of our dentists can vary from 1 hour to several hours depending on the treatment being completed.

Should I brush my teeth before a dentist appointment?

While it’s helpful to start with a clean mouth and your dentist or hygienist will always appreciate the effort but it is not a requirement to do so.

If you have any questions or concerns about dental hygiene techniques, best practices or addressing issues such as recurring bad breath, please talk to your dentist or hygienist for more information.

How to get an emergency dental appointment

You may need an urgent visit to our downtown Calgary clinic for a dental emergency if you have:

• A broken tooth
• A toothache
• A lost crown or filling
• Any pain or infection in your mouth, face or neck area
• Any other dental problem or discomfort

For emergency dental care, we strive to see you in our Calgary clinic within 24 hours during business hours, and on the same day if possible. New clients are always welcome. The purpose of your visit will be to relieve the discomfort, diagnose the problem and advise you of your options for resolving it.

Rescheduling and missed appointments

We require 2 business days’ notice for any schedule changes to avoid a $107 rescheduling fee. Please contact us directly to reschedule your appointments.
